Back to School! AGH!
The Shift Between Summer and School Gears
Can’t quite get yourself into gear? Do you feel like you’re stuck? Wheels spinning faster than your parent WhatsApp messages?
I’m feeling like a bundle of nerves… when I really NEED to feel energised, I’m feeling overwhelmed…🥴
That’s why I put together a great package….

FOCUS BRAIN & SHROOMS IMMUNE for only €97 (RRP €162)
For some, BACK TO SCHOOL is the most wonderful time of the year. They love getting all new pens and pencils, new copy books and binders, another laptop because you spilled something on the last one 😐
For others there’s a lot of nerves…..
Especially for young kids and their parents, going back to school can be a little daunting. Maybe your kids are going to a new school. Will they make new friends? Will they get a nice teacher?
🍎Oh teachers…. We all have the one who was our cheerleader… and the other teacher who was a terror…
Some parents prefer the laissez-faire timetable-free summer days. Nothing to plan, nothing to do but float from day to day. This doesn’t work with younger children as they need supervision and tend to wander….
If you decided to become parent of the year over the summer and do educational activities all summer, perhaps you need a holiday yourself? 😆
Routines & Busy-ness ⏰
For most of us, routines help us shape the days and weeks. It’s nice to know what day it is. But we all know how busy getting back into the extracurriculars can be. Just navigating the timetables between parents, or if you’re a solo parent, could actually be an Olympic Sport!
Shifting Gears from Summer Ease to WhatsApp Sign Up Mayhem
Shifting gears takes a few days. So, ease yourself and the kids into it. It’s okay not to have EVERYTHING DONE- a tidy house and amazing dinners every evening is ambitious. Be kind to yourself. Sometimes we get ourselves worked up thinking that we have to be able to pack Instagram worthy lunches or else we’re failures as parents! A ham sandwich, yoghurt and apple is a perfectly acceptable and nutritious way to feed your child and accounts for about 90% of my kids’ lunches.
Grades & Fear of Failure
For some kids, grades and their fear of failure can rear its head again. Take the time to talk to your kids and maybe tell stories of when you didn’t get it all perfect either. Kids tend to see things in black and white, that the mark they got at 8 will haunt them forever. Reassure them that when they’re as old as you they’ll forget why they walked into the next room, never mind what grade they got.
Bullying
For some kids, school represents a return to that kid that picked on them during lunch break. Have a chat with your kid about this and see if you can offer ways to help them. Sometimes even acknowledging that some people aren't nice can help alleviate the issue. Tusla has some great information on this.
Practical Steps to Help You Ease Back into School &
The Busy Season
Box Breathing: A Calming Exercise- For Kids and Parents
While your older kids might not even like the sound of you breathing, breath exercises can help calm frazzled nerves. I find BOX BREATHING very effective when my mind races during busy times. It’s based on a 4-4-4-4 method….see below and here for a video…
- Inhale for 4 seconds- hold for 4 seconds
- Exhale for 4 seconds- hold for 4 seconds
- Notice how you feel & repeat through the day while putting the kettle on, being stuck in traffic or whenever you’re feeling overwhelmed
Prep Like A Boss!
Meal Planning for the week may seem boring but it’ll keep your busy household ticking when you’re rushing in and out between sports and other extracurriculars. Mapping out the week allows you to buy what you need- less waste. b
Batch cooking means you can freeze ready to cook meals for later. Far healthier than most ready made meals AND economical too!
This will allow you to heat and eat when you get in the door with dinner on the table in no time and minimal stress!
Pack lunches the night before too- fill their water bottles as well- this gives you breathing space for a less stressed commute in your kitchen the next day.
Lay Out Your Evenings
Have your kids lay out their clothes the night before on the back of a chair. I know - even this can be an issue, especially if they don’t have a uniform. The expense of buying the best new trainers or jeans can be a lot… However, having it all laid out the night before at least avoids the last minute panic of discovering the jeans are still on the line!
Family Calendar & Tracker
It’s nice to have a big paper calendar to put everyone’s activities onto week by week. I know we all have phones and apps for this, but I still love writing it down in one place.
And I know my fabÜ REV ÜP bundle will help you too!
