There’s no such thing as a perfect Christmas. The perfect Christmas only exists on the screen. The pressure for perfect is all around- and starts earlier and earlier. It’s like a race, isn’t it? The pressure to make all your own paper (eco-friendly, of course) , to have the gifts wrapped monogrammed by mid-August and the turkey to be picture perfect is NOT what Christmas is all about. Besides, turkey is a dry old bird. A nice juicy chicken is much less hassle and, in my opinion, far tastier!
I’m not running that race anymore. It’s exhausting and no one wins.
This Christmas, I’m trying to slow down (a bit), to get away from the school sports and constant washing of clothes and countertops. It’s a time when the year ends and I start to reflect on the past year, and just take a pause to let it sink in. I tend to fly through my days and weeks (and months) and I don’t really take time to sit back and count my blessings. Yes, business achievements are important to me, but what matters most are my family and friends. I think all the hype around Christmas is really just a mad marketing machine. So, make sure to protect yourself from it. You don’t need all the things. Think about what really matters to you and focus on that. It probably won’t be something you can buy in a shop! I hope that you can also press pause, take a break, and take time to put your feet up and breathe. I think we all deserve a break. This past year has been full of ups and downs, some have more challenges than we can ever imagine. So, I’m going to try to focus on happiness to lift my friends and family- and spread that energy outwards.
So, this Christmas I am going to sit back and pause….
🎄I’m going to look at the tree with the lights, maybe have another mince pie….
🎄I am going to take my dog for long walks by myself and not worry about the washing as it’ll be there when I get back.
🎄I am going to take a sneaky moment with my hubby to spend an hour at the pub just having the chats.
🎄I am going to spend time with the boys, one on one, while they still (kinda) let me!
🎄I am going to watch my favourite Christmas movies and snuggle up with my new gorgeous niece!
She’s brought us so much love and joy and has reminded us that life is so very, very precious and all the really matters is love, for each other, for ourselves, for our small blue spinning planet 🌏 and yes, for mince pies too!
Happy Christmas
