Dying is easy, comedy is hard.
I can’t remember who first said that, but it’s someone funnier than me.
Laughter is better with friends….
It’s no secret that making people laugh is a gift. And Kyla Cobbler is truly gifted! Kyla’s on tour with me, and I count my lucky stars she said yes to my invitation! The beautiful thing about Kyla is that she appreciates her gift and delights in sharing it with others- making people laugh gives her joy! There’s also something infectious about laughter- the giggles you can’t control when you need to, or just the collective snorts of jokes that remind us not to take life so seriously. Kyla FABULOUSLY combines wit, charm, and Irish knowing winks to get us through the tough times by seeing the funny bits, even when you feel in bits…. She had us laughing so hard we needed to chat with pelvic floor therapist, Aoife, who we wrote about here.
Speaking of feeling in bits…
Life does have a way of getting to you, doesn't it? If it’s not the weather ☔and dodgy politics, it’s the day to day stuff that just gets… well… boring! Like- didn’t I just clean all those dishes? That’s why it’s important to get out of the hum-drum doldrums. Doing something a little out of the ordinary doesn’t have to be bungee jumping or anything too crazy. For some it’s having a night out with girlfriends, having the laughs, sharing stories and finding that you’re not alone in your struggles. It makes the journey more interesting, doesn’t it?
Why I started the VLV Tour…. Listening to Women
That’s why I wanted to do the Viva La Vulva Tour. Yes, I wanted it to be informative. But I wanted to make the journey easier & less lonely. I knew that from over 20 years in pharmacy that women weren’t being given key information to help them with their health concerns. And the solutions aren’t rocket-science complicated either. All I was doing was listening, answering her questions and offering her tried and true solutions.
Yeah- I know. Who knew listening to a woman might be part of good healthcare?
Mindset- which we’ve chatted about here before, also plays a key role in our health. How are you talking to yourself? Are you being too hard? Too easy? Who are we surrounding ourselves with? Are we around people who make us laugh? Are we watching depressing shows on Netflix?
GET UP, GET DRESSED, GET GOING!
While working from home has been great in so many ways- no traffic!- it’s been isolating too. It means we might not get out of our PJ’s at all. And listen- you KNOW I love a PJ day, so I’m not judging, but I do love getting dressed up and getting OUT of the house too!
Plus- when you’re on your own typing away, you have less chats and giggles. Frankly there’s only so much Carlo the dog can chat about!
Did you know 🤔 as adults we laugh way less than we did as kids? On average a child will laugh up to 400 times per day, whereas an adult might only laugh 17 times a day. The Healing Power of Laughter - PMC Only 17 times a day? And laughter reduces cortisol, the stress hormone and increases our endorphins, our feel good hormones. It’s a win-win. 😄
Your Laughter Homework 📖
So here’s the challenge… Can you go out with friends, see a funny movie or show (or come to mine!)? See if you can incorporate laughter into your day and week, taking laughter as seriously as the rest of your healthcare routine.
Report back to me and let me know how you feel.
Yours in laughter,
