How an Irish Pharmacist Turned a Cholesterol Diagnosis into a Natural Solution for Everyone.
"I love butter, I'm a real Irish woman. But then I got the call about my cholesterol."
The diagnosis that made absolutely no sense to me
Twenty years as a pharmacist, and I thought this wouldn't happen to me. I eat well, I exercise, yet the bloodwork came back, and it didn't care about any of that.
Sitting in the GP's office, I was annoyed. I looked after myself, knew the science, and still, there it was, clear as day in my blood results. I felt guilty, like I'd done something wrong.
If you've ever felt the same way, let me tell you, it's NOT your fault. Cholesterol is often a genetic lottery, you can do everything by the book and still get caught out.

Everything I tried before I made my own solution
Of course, I tried everything. I got my saturated fat down to under 20 grams a day, even thought of saying goodbye to butter, which, if you're Irish, you know is a big deal. So it wasn't about giving everything up, it was about being smarter with it. I ramped up my cardio, and I even tried the standard plant sterol supplements, but the doses were nowhere near what the clinical studies recommend.
None of these changes were wrong but they just weren't enough. So, I decided to do my research and start again from the ground up.
What really causes high cholesterol
Diet plays an important role in managing cholesterol, but the cholesterol in our blood doesn’t just come from the food we eat. Our liver also makes cholesterol because our body needs it, and some cholesterol that enters our digestive system can be reabsorbed.
This is why dietary changes can make a real difference, but for some people they may not be enough on their own. Plant sterols can help by reducing the amount of cholesterol absorbed in the small intestine. They have a similar structure to cholesterol and compete with it during the absorption process. As a result, less cholesterol is absorbed into the body and more is naturally passed out.
The amount matters too. Research shows that consuming around 1.5 to 2.4 g (1,500 to 2,400 mg) of plant sterols or stanols daily can lower blood cholesterol by approximately 7 to 10.5%.

Creating the better solution
So I went back into the lab and made my own. I wanted to include 1,500 mg of plant sterols in the daily dose, an amount supported by clinical research. Plant sterols have been shown to lower blood cholesterol, so getting the amount right was really important to me when developing the formula.
I also reduced my LDL cholesterol and increased my HDL cholesterol. I achieved these results while taking my supplement alongside making positive changes to my diet, exercise and overall lifestyle.
These are my personal results, and individual results will vary.
Laura Dowling, Pharmacist and founder of fabÜ
I added Shiitake mushroom extract, known for its antioxidants, alongside Vitamins B1 and B2. Vitamin B1 contributes to the normal function of the heart and normal energy-yielding metabolism, while Vitamin B2 contributes to the maintenance of normal red blood cells, normal iron metabolism and the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
The routine is straightforward: three tablets daily with your main meals.
This is designed to be taken alongside a healthy, balanced diet and lifestyle. There’s no need for drastic changes or giving up the foods you enjoy. It’s about making positive choices, building healthy habits and staying consistent.
I named it fabÜ SHROOMS CHOLESTEROL & HEART and decided to follow the same routine myself.
After three months, I retested and saw a 15% drop in my overall cholesterol, a reduction in LDL, and an increase in HDL.

"My cholesterol has been creeping up for a couple of years, and it recently hit 6.2. I picked up a bottle of these pills in the chemist, and I took them religiously for three months and then went back for another test and my cholesterol has come down to 5.6 which is pretty amazing!"

On top of that, many are also struggling with disrupted sleep, which can have a knock-on effect on almost every aspect of health. Because of this, there are two additional products that I frequently recommend alongside fabÜ SHROOMS CHOLESTEROL & HEART for people facing these broader health challenges.
If your GP has handed you a number you don't want to accept
There is no need to overhaul your diet overnight or feel guilty about enjoying the foods you love. What you do need is a clinically dosed solution, a realistic timeline, and a willingness to stay consistent.
fabÜ SHROOMS CHOLESTEROL & HEART is the supplement I created for myself when I was looking for this kind of support, and it remains part of my own routine today.
My advice is to use the supplement consistently for at least three months, as directed, alongside a healthy, balanced diet and lifestyle.
Cholesterol levels can be monitored with a blood test, so if you’re making changes to help manage your cholesterol, speak to your healthcare professional about when it may be appropriate to have your levels checked again.
