Give Yourself The Gift Of Self-Care This Christmas

The Christmas holidays are one of the busiest times of the year. There is a lot of excitement associated with visiting family and friends, but there is also a great deal of tension related to travel, waiting in line, planning, and preparation, as well as a whole spectrum of emotions, both good and bad.

 

All of this leaves little time for taking care of yourself. This can leave you feeling worn out, exhausted, and filled with stress and anxiety. Fortunately, we have a few tips to help you care for yourself and make the season a little brighter.

 

 

  • Schedule self-care

Schedule self-care activities regularly. Set a timer or alarm to remind yourself to engage in self-care activities (such as exercise, meditation, or a pastime you enjoy) at the same time every day so that they become part of your routine, especially over the holidays.

 

  • Practice gratitude

Make an effort to feel thankful for the people and things in your life. This could involve expressing your thanks to others or writing in a journal about the things you value in your life. Doing so will help you let go of any negative feelings you may be having and will help keep your focus on the positive things in your life.

 

  • Breathe!

When life gets hectic, it's easy to get so caught up in the hustle that we forget to stop and take a deep breath! This can involve meditation, breathing exercises, or just listening to some relaxing music.

 

  • Listen to your feelings.

Pay attention to the feelings you are having. Positive, negative, or a combination of the two emotions are all possible, especially this time of year. Give yourself "time outs" and assess your feelings. Take a moment to reflect on how you are feeling and what might be causing you to feel this way. Doing so will help you stay in control of your emotions.

 

  • Take care of yourself!

Taking care of both your physical and mental well-being over the holidays is the key to feeling your best! Ensure you are getting enough rest each night. Try to maintain a healthy diet while making allowances for the special treats the holidays offer. Minimize your alcohol intake and try to find some balance in your life.

 

Christmas can often become overwhelming and stressful. However, it's important to keep in mind one of the most important reasons for the season - spending time with loved ones and spreading joy. This holiday season, take some time out to enjoy yourself while keeping in mind the importance of self-care. You may be tempted to spend your time doing for others, but doing something for yourself is crucial for your well-being.
