🏃♀️I was late the other day. Well, I am often running late as I have time blindness and I think I can do a bazillion things in an hour. Anyways- I made it to my appointment by running there- literally. And I thought to myself how lucky I am that I can move with ease, that I have a level of fitness that doesn’t limit me. Yes, some of that is luck as there are many with health conditions that restrain their activity levels, but for the most part being healthy in body means that I can leg it to a late appointment.
It also got me thinking about the work that I put into staying fit as I age. I notice that I can reach those high shelves to take down a heavy pot or lift up a basket of laundry to take to the line. It means I can do more and be more in my day to day. I am happy that I work out my muscles to keep my body working for me as I age. Frankly, it makes life easier for me because I can manage so much more of the physical demands of my day. Mentally I notice I feel better when I have done a workout too. Even if I’d rather stay in my dressing gown all day, I NEVER regret that workout. It also gives me much needed headspace- a breather from the demands of my work, kids and family.
Gym Time is Actually “Me Time”!
While a lot of us have gym memberships, some of us can’t get there- either because of expense or time restrictions. You have to get to the gym, sign in, get your locker sorted, maybe shower after, go back to work or home… That's a time drain right there. Not long ago myself and my sister- who’s also a qualified trainer as well as a pharmacist- did The Use it or lose it challenge on my Instagram which you could do at home on your own schedule. The beauty of those workouts was they were short and portable on your phone- you could do them anywhere, anytime. There’s loads of other workouts available on Youtube, so you really can pick and choose what works best for you. You don't have to spend hours working out either. Shorter workouts aren’t any less effective and frankly 20 minutes a day is better than zero minutes a day. Then when you find yourself in a routine, you find you’ve got energy to do more 💥! Running really doesn't cost you anything either- although I’d recommend getting good shoes- and it’s a great way to get fresh air, or if you’re travelling to see the city you’re in!
